VISUAL ART / stone, tile, and rock

We began collecting rocks and artifacts during beach trips, but it wasn’t until finding some remarkable stones, glass, and old china and pottery on the banks of the Jones Falls that we fell in love with the mineral world.

Sean is the amateur geologist/lapidary. For the most part he polishes his display rocks and cabochons by hand. Sean’s more remarkable finds (all in Maryland, and mostly within the Baltimore metro) have included jadeite/nephrite, jasper, chalcedony, geodes, agate, and rocks containing visible native gold.

Claire collects what most people would consider garbage from the area’s streams and rivers, and the shores of the Bay, in order to make found-object mosaics. These are very time-consuming projects and so she has not made many of them. Her most rewarding project was memorial markers for her best friends’ parents graves. She has also made stained glass windows using a mosaic method on salvaged windows, using only found glass. She hopes to begin another window soon.
