History is a slippery mistress. People who know a lot about history — so-called “Historians” — often miss the really interesting stories, often ceding their own agency to people who have “degrees” or “credentials.” Either that or they just do a good job of sounding like they know what they’re talking about. Either way, they often miss the interesting stuff. But not us. We have no pretensions of competence or insight. We just do what we do. Claire finds an interesting story from the past and reads it out loud (that’s why this is a podcast and not a collection of fancy-pants “essays”) and Sean does his best to not embarrass himself making comments about it. Spoiler alert: he doesn’t often succeed.
